Mary Elizabeth Hospital
The construction of the Mary Elizabeth Hospital is in full swing. The upcoming hospital at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen will be an extensive building of 60,000 m² spread over eight floors and will provide a framework for children, young people, pregnant women, and their families. With room for around 900 daily patients and their families, as well as approx. 1,200 employees, the hospital will be one of the country's most ambitious and specialised hospital constructions.
The project has been developed with a focus on creating safe and healing environments where architecture, technology, and functionality go hand in hand. At the same time, extraordinary demands are placed on all technical solutions, with the construction developed based on the "best available technology" principle. Advanced lighting technology, intelligent lighting controls, and innovative technologies therefore play a central role in the project, where the solutions must meet high standards and support the ambition of creating the children's hospital of the future.
For the project, Teamtronic, in close collaboration with Wicotec Kirkebjerg, has delivered lighting solutions where the technology extends far beyond traditional functional lighting. At the hospital, among other things, circadian rhythm lighting and specially developed night lighting with amber-coloured light are being implemented, designed to support human physiological and emotional needs throughout the day. The lighting is designed to mimic daylight's natural variations in both intensity and colour temperature to support the circadian rhythms and well-being of patients, relatives, and staff.
The solution makes high demands on both lighting expertise and technical documentation. In its development, considerable work has been done with, among other things, melanopic EDI and photopic lux – parameters that describe the biological impact of light and its importance for the human circadian rhythm. At the same time, the luminaires have been developed and tested with a focus on requirements for light distribution, spectral composition, UGR values, and flicker, among other things, to ensure that the solutions meet the high standards required by the project.
The project is still under construction, and Teamtronic remains an active part of the process, with lighting solutions being delivered on an ongoing basis as the construction progresses.
