Custom-designed LED luminaires work as part of Rigshospitalet NF2's ceiling construction

Construction of the new Rigshospital is in full swing. The new administration building, car park and patient hotel have been completed and are already in use. Now we are working hard to complete the sterile centre and phase 2 of the North Wing.

Modern and healing solutions

The north wing will be a treatment building with over 209 wards, 33 operating theatres, an intensive care unit, outpatient clinics and much more. The north wing is built as a zig-zag, with a special focus on making the rooms open and bright.

To this end, the architects on the project have worked on acoustics and light in the individual rooms. The wards need to be healing for patients, while operating theatres, outpatient clinics and offices need to have the most effective task lighting.

Customised LED luminaires

In close collaboration and dialogue with architects and consultants, the Funen-based lighting supplier Teamtronic has delivered custom-designed linear LED luminaires.

"Based on a close dialogue with architects and consultants, we have been able to supply linear LED luminaires for Rigshospitalet NF2, all specially designed for the project. The design is developed in such a way that the individual linear luminaires function as part of the ceiling construction. In this way, the mounted luminaires help to hold the individual ceiling tiles in place.", says Project Manager at Teamtronic, Jens Thorup, and continues

"It is an aluminium cassette that is an integral part of the suspended ceiling. The custom-designed linear luminaires all have a flange corresponding to the ceiling tracks in the ceiling structure. In this way, our linear luminaires can replace several ceiling tracks in the ceiling structure"

The luminaires will all be placed parallel to the corridor ceilings in the North Wing. Due to the design and installation of the luminaires, the corridor lighting will resemble an endless LED luminaire that runs continuously from one end of the corridor to the other.

In addition, all linear luminaires are equipped with an Opal louvre, which reduces the possibility of glare and makes it more comfortable to look at. This is particularly relevant for patients who are transferred from, for example, recovery rooms to wards.

High lumen

In connection with the construction of the new operating theatres, outpatient clinics, meeting rooms and more, Teamtronic has also supplied 60×60 ceiling luminaires where the focus was on light output and colour rendering. In this connection, all 60×60 ceiling luminaires are high lumen, RA90 - 4000K.

High lumen describes the efficiency of the diode, which can result in operational savings, among other things.

Lighting consultant Karsten Nellemose explains:

"When it comes to lighting hospital environments such as operating theatres and outpatient clinics, light output and colour rendering are paramount. It is important that there is good and natural working light in these environments and that the colour rendering of surrounding objects is high". Karsten Nellemose continues:

"In addition, all lighting is designed in accordance with Danish lighting standard 12464-1. This ensures that we comply with the lighting requirements imposed on the project."
