Hospital Unit West, Maternity Ward

Hospital Unit West in Herning has been the setting for a research project aimed at investigating the impact of the surroundings on the birth process. To create the safest and most homely setting for those in labour, both the labour and delivery rooms are decorated with modern and colourful furniture, speakers with music of your choice, mood-creating pictures on the walls, dimmable ceiling lights and more. Together, this creates a positive overall experience and a special atmosphere in the room, where the clinical expression is toned down.

In this connection, we at Teamtronic have supplied recessed luminaires with dynamic circadian lighting in the labour and delivery room. In this context, dynamic circadian lighting is part of the overall experience of a birth process.

Hospitalsenheden Vest in Herning wanted dynamic circadian lighting programmed to follow the natural circadian rhythm with a low light intensity and yellowish/reddish colour in the morning and evening, and a strong intensity with blue light in the middle of the day. However, it is also possible for the woman in labour and her relatives to control the light via a tablet in the room, taking into account their preferences for surroundings that create peace and security in an otherwise stressful situation.

Should complications arise during labour, midwives and doctors can quickly transform the delivery room into a fully lit hospital room with 100% light intensity and a white/blue glow. This is done simply by pressing a switch on the wall. However, the staff at Hospitalsenheden Vest have not yet had to press the button.
