Lighting is crucial to human vision. In healthcare and medicine, this is evident in work situations in operating theatres, where concentration and precision are crucial for the well-being of patients. Here, surgeons, anaesthetists and support staff work closely together in different areas of responsibility with different lighting requirements. The working environment in the operating theatre challenges the vision of healthcare professionals as the eyes become strained. Lighting is therefore important to take into account.
Basic lighting in the operating theatre
The primary task of basic lighting in the operating theatre is to ensure regular and hygienic lighting for everyone in the room, regardless of function. From the patient to support staff and the surgeon, the lighting must also feel welcoming, but with brightness and colour rendering (Ra90) that does not disturb the surgeon, anaesthesia and support staff working in the room.

Work light in the surgical field
The function of task lighting can be completely different. Functionally, it should primarily support staff work with high illuminance and high colour rendering, making it possible to see very small details that are as close to reality as possible.
In addition, task lighting for operating theatres can also aim to create light zones that support different conditions and tasks through green and red light. The purpose is to help healthcare professionals and patients during operations. The red background light highlights black and white images for e.g. X-ray examinations, while the green light highlights the colours on the operating screen. When an examination or surgery is complete, the coloured light can be switched off to illuminate the room with normal white light (4000K), e.g. for the benefit of cleaning staff.

Lighting solutions for operating theatres
When it comes to healthcare and medical, there are several solutions that cover all needs. The function of the room, people's well-being and workflows play an important role in the choice of lighting. Here we present two examples of basic lighting, both of which create a pleasant lighting environment with high visual comfort.

Dialux visualisation - T-LED Hygiene surface-mounted (3000K): This luminaire is an obvious choice for operating theatres because it is specially designed for demanding environments where high demands are placed on effective cleaning. The luminaire is IP65 and is therefore protected against water jets from any direction. The opal diffuser makes it easy to clean and is resistant to various cleaning agents. At the same time, it provides good, regular ambient lighting that the room requires.
